  • Question

  • On boot I now get a black screen with the following:

    An error has occurred.

    Code:
    0xC004E002

    Description:
The Software Licensing Service reported that the licencse store contains inconsistent data.

    Any ideas?

This is with a genuinely-licensed, previously-activated copy of Vista Ultimate.

  • If you're unable to access the Start Menu, please contact support by following this link: Product Support Services.  Microsoft has a 90 day free support period that starts on the day you first acquire Vista.  Your issue goes beyond validation and a technical support agent will be able to help you get that aspect resolved.  If you continue to have validation problems after that is resolved please post here.  Thanks!

  • Please post the results of the WGA diagnostics tool (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012) with any new question.

Please also post the error code you get (if any) when you validate by clicking "Validate Windows" here: www.microsoft.com/genuine
The error code will be gray and in brackets at the end of the message on the page that says validation failed.  (It'll look something like this:  [0xC004C000]).

    Thank you!

  • I couldn't run the WGA diagnostics before as I could not connect to the net as Windows wouldn't let me do anything. I've now gone to the expense of hooking up the web directly just so I could the WGA diagnostics. I am not impressed!

  • The error I get when validating windows is now [0x80070426]
    Tuesday, June 19, 2007 12:38 AM
  • Note that I can only seem to use Internet Explorer. There is no start menu, nothing, so I cannot follow any of the other instructions such as running disk cleanup. I do expect to be treated better as a paying customer.

  • And I can't open a support request via email because I keep getting:

    > An unknown application error occurred. Please try again in a few minutes.

After submitting the report form. Grrrr...

And I can't open an email request because you only offer that during office hours... Double grrrr...

    I meant telephone support...

  • Could you reply please? I notice you have replied to other who posted after me!

  • My thread has gone unanswered today while others have been addressed...

And I still can't open up an email support ticket because every time I enter the problem details and hit submit, I get 'Error:
An unknown application error occurred. Please try again in a few minutes.

  • Can you tell me if you have any of the applications that are mentioned in this post: http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=897109&SiteID=25 installed on your computer?

    Also please try this:

Open an elevated command prompt (find Command Prompt in the start menu, right-click it and choose "Run as administrator") and type "net start slsvc" (and hit enter).

If you get the following message:

"The Software Licensing service is starting.
The Software Licensing service was started successfully."

try validating again.  You can do that by clicking "Validate Windows" here: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/
If you get a different message please run a disk check and then run (no quotes) "sfc /scannow" in an elevated Command Prompt.  And then try validating again.

      Thank you!

  • No, I have none of the programs listed.

I told you that I do not have a start button as my session seems to be restricted. So, how can I do as you suggest and elevate the command prompt?

    Tuesday, June 19, 2007 10:11 PM
  • You responded telling me to do something I'd already told you I couldn't do due to being in a restrictive shell with no start menu. I paid good money for Vista from a reputable dealer. Why can't I use it?
    Tuesday, June 19, 2007 10:33 PM
  • If you're unable to access the Start Menu, please contact support by following this link: Product Support Services.  Microsoft has a 90 day free support period that starts on the day you first acquire Vista.  Your issue goes beyond validation and a technical support agent will be able to help you get that aspect resolved.  If you continue to have validation problems after that is resolved please post here.  Thanks!

  • I've already told you that I can't open an email case as I keep getting an error - why do you keep recommending me stuff that I've already told you I can't do?
    Wednesday, June 20, 2007 1:38 AM
  • My 90 days free support entitlement ended yesterday. This is not funny. Why do you say the issue goes beyond validation? The PC isn't saying that, is it?
    Wednesday, June 20, 2007 1:42 AM
  • In order to open a case with Product Support Services I need a product ID number for Windows. According to your website, it's necessary to obtain this by clicking START... As I told you, I do not have a start button as the PC has seen fit to give me a restricted shell. This situation is now beyond a joke...

  • My mother got the same problem, and we have contacted microsoft who send us back to the fujistu people, it is incredible that there is no better service ! and no technician seeems to be able to know what to do!

  • Try this.  When you get to the browser, go to the address bar and type C:\Windows\system32\
This should give you an explorer screen.  Then look down until you find rstrui.exe.  This is the restore function.

Doubleclick and it will let you restore.  You may need to check the box that says more than 5-6 days ago, and pick an older spot.
Let it do its thing.  You should then be back to a point where you have normal access and can resolve the problem with Microsoft support.
The chat function worked best for me.  Otherwise you sift through hundreds of pages of irrelevant data. Good Luck.
