DNS Alias for SQL RRS feed

  • Question

  • Has anyone deployed OCS use an alias DNS record for the SQL server?

If I setup an alias to a SQL farm, this is so I can add a dedicated SQL server at a later date, I get the following error message when I point to the alias:

    ---------------------------
    Error
    ---------------------------
An error occurred during the pool backend detection:

    Pool backend discovery failed.

Failed to start SQL service or invalid SQL instance.

This can happen due to network or credential problems. Please make sure network is good and logon has sufficient permissions.

Click 'Cancel' to close the wizard.

Click 'Try Again' to go back to the previous page and enter a different pool backend instance.

    Click 'Continue' to move forward.

  • MarkyH,

Did you manage to resolve this issue?

I am getting the exact same error message with installing the BackEnd Database.

Our environment is a little unique as our SQL Cluster is running in a different segment behind a firewall, also there is a named instance setup for OCS running on a non-standard port number.

If you can help with my issue that would be great.
