How to get started migrating SqlCe SF1.0 app to SF2.0 Sql Express? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I started my app with SF1.0's designer which created an SqlCe .sdf and turned on all the SQL Server 2008 change tracking.

Is there a designer in SF2.0 to get started creating an Sql Express .mdf and turn on all SQL Server 2008 change tracking etc?

  • The designer support via the Local Database Cache item in VS 2008 only supports CE on the client side and there is no SQLClientSyncProvider support either in SF1 or SF2. The designer is for offline scenario type of sync.

So to move to SQL Express on the client side:

    1. Download the sample SQL Express client sync provider from here: http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/sync/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=1200

    2. Follow the steps here to manually enable SQL Change tracking   http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc305322.aspx

    3. Manually create the Sync SQL commands or re-use the same code generated by the designer for SQLCe and simply change the CE client sync provider (SqlCeClientSyncProvider)  to use the sample SQLExpressClientSync provider from step 1.
