Setting resource availability using Project Server

Question
-
How do I set availability of a resouce at different rates for different projects when I am using resources from project server? I need to set the resource availability at different percentages for different projects. When I set the resource availability using Tools, Enterprise Options, Open Enterprise Resource Pool, the setting is the same for every project.
As per Project Help, "If you're working with an enterprise project using Office Project Server 2007, it will appear that you can change many settings on this dialog box. However, you will not be able to save your changes. You can only change enterprise resource information if you have project server administrator privileges and then check out the enterprise resource pool. To do this, point to Enterprise Options on the Tools menu, and then click Open Enterprise Resource Pool. You can then use the Resource Information dialog box to change enterprise resource settings."

HI TIA,
The max units is the field you are looking for. Unfortunaltely you are not able to set the max units per project within Project Server. THis setting is a global setting and you can determin the units by dates when opening the global resource and double click the resource name.
There is no way to set the units per project. ( I can see the benefit in this though).
Hope this helps

Hi,
If I understand correctly, you want to a resource to have different rates for different types of projects. If this is not correct please explain further.
What you would need to do, if have different resource rate values for the resource, please see the following link - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/change-cost-rate-tables-on-a-resource-assignment-HP045294295.aspx
Then once this has been defined, select the cost rate which this resource will be working on in the Resource Sheet in Project Pro.
Hope this helps to begin with......

When I use the term "rates", I am referring to the avialability rate. My goal is to set the availability rate of a resource for a project, to assist in resource leveling.

Marc,
Is this still true in 2010 that you cannot Max Units at the project level but only at the Enterprise level if you are working in Project Server 2010?
If so, the Project Team need to look at adding this functionality. Many organizations want to allocate resources to different projects at different % of their total time during the same period. I am not plugging for competitor's software, but Clarity offers this functionality when integrated with Microsoft Project desktop and it preserves different project-level max units and different task level max units.

Hi Kevin,
the general functionality has not changed. You can not amend the max units per resource in a project, but you can of course amend the units per task.
The idea of the current funcitonality is to mange global resource capacity centrally, or in a controlled environment. Well as it is with controlled environments you loose some flexibillity, but I agrree with you, ideally you would like to have the flexibillity to determin the max units per project. Worth suggesting to the team.
Thanks
