Cannot Send Messages Due to Possible Firewall Issue in Onecare Live RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running windows vista with two accounts - one for myself and one for my wife.  When I use windows mail in my account it works fine.  When the wife uses her account she receives mail but cannot send mail.

We get the following error notice:

The host 'smpt-server.austin.rr.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly.
Subject 'test', Account: 'pop-server.austin.rr.com', Server: 'smpt-server.austin.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

I contacted time warner since we are using roadrunner.  They said the error code was caused by my security software - the only one I am running is onecare.  They had me empty out her account, totally reset all information and restart the computer.  I did all that and still get the same error code message.

They then told me to contact onecare live to resolve the problem.

    Can you help please?

  • The Road Runner tech support person needs to go back to school. ;-)

Your email account settings for your wife's sending (smtp) account are wrong.

    'smpt-server.austin.rr.com'

    should be smtp-server.austin.rr.com

I've done that typo in configuring email many times!

  • If you turn off the One Care firewall does the issue persist?
