1:1 Relationship RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a fairly complex entity (MyEntity). This entity can in some cases be associated with a campaign. There is never more then one campaign associated with this entity nor is there ever more than one such entity associated with a campaign. Now in this entity I want a field where I can select a campaign with which this entity object might be associated with. I could create an N:1 relationship to get this field and then hide the menu entry pointing to my entity. However, is there a better way to achieve this?

  • There is no way around this that doesn-t involve using the CRM relationships so just do what you have already mentioned with regards to placing the lookup on the Campaign to MyEntity.

In all sense, having 1:1 is actually the same entity, so if you don't want relationships just add all of the MyEntity attributes to the Campaign entity and then place the fields onto a new Tab on the Campaign Form, then delete your MyEntity entity.

  • N = 1, too.  N:N == 1:1.  It's certainly easier to administrate one relationship, than two.  Of course, displaying the record isn't as nice as an N:1, and not as easy to limit as 1:N.
