Installing CD copy of OneCare but getting renewal notice still RRS feed

  • Question

  •

My subscription ran out July 7th, I uninstalled OneCare on July 4th and installed a fresh copy from a disc I bought from a store and when I installed it (which worked fine) it Still asks me to renew.   After uninstalling and reinstalling it still says my subscription needs renewing.  I originally used a card to purchase my original copy and It wants to use it again.  I read where you put the token or key code in but It doesn't let me get that far.   Would a new Windows Live ID help? or what else can I try.  Love the program and was a beta tester on it, but am getting frustrated trying to get it going again.

Also, would it ask me to back up again, as I am on my 12th CD at the moment and do not want to back up again.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • If you go to billing - https://billing.microsoft.com/home.aspx sign in using the Live ID and password associated with your One Care account, find your One Care subscription and select "Renew this service". On the payment page you should see the option to use a "Pre-Paid PIN or Token" as a method of payment. You can enter the 25 character product key included with the CD and your subscription should renew.

Since you uninstalled and reinstalled One Care you may be asked to perform a full backup.

  • Still wants me to update my credit card as my previous one has expired, will not let me get to another screen to enter a pin or token, I do not want to enter a card as I am afraid it may recharge my account. Thanks for your quick response earier JimR1.

  • I don't think your credit card would be automatically charged but to be sure I would contact support. How to reach support - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2
