Wrong number of indexed pages? If website was not blocked why was it dropped from index? Delete META tag? RRS feed

  • Question

  • My site http://bankcd.com disappeared from the index more than a year ago and I've submitted it a few times to http://search.live.com/docs/submit.aspx without success (site:bankcd.com and url:bankcd.com produce no results). On Dec/13, 2007 I submitted my sitemap address on http://webmaster.live.com/, verified my website (using a META tag on my home page) and validated my robots.txt file.

    1) The status indicates:

    Indexed pages: 1

    Last crawled: 0/0/0000

    Blocked: No

My question: What page is the one supposedly indexed?

    2) How can I find out why was my website dropped from the index?

    3) How long do I need to leave the verification META tag on my home page? Can I delete it?

  • I recommend double checking the webmaster tools. Are you sure you are not blocked?  A website may disappear from search results because it was removed from the Live Search index or it was reported as spam. Occasionally, a website may disappear from search results as we continue to improve our website-ranking algorithms. In some cases, search results may change considerably as we test new algorithms.

I suspect you may need to submit a reinclusion request on the webmaster tools if this is the case.

Let me know if your status has changed and we can take it from there.

  • How can I know if my website is blocked other than checking the webmaster tools? When I wrote the previous post, webmaster tools indicated: “Blocked: No”, now it indicates: “No data is available”. Also, “Top links to” shows links from very reputable sites (eg, Forbes.com). Since my website has been out of the index for over a year, I don’t think this is a temporary issue.

I’ve submitted reinclusion requests many times. At about the same time I posted I received a reply from Microsoft Global Escalations indicating that they have resubmitted it to the index and to wait 3-4 weeks. However I’ve not received a reply to my questions below. Can you help?

    1) How can I find out why was my website dropped from the index? (I want to prevent it from happening again).

    2) How long do I need to leave the verification META tag on my home page? Can I delete it?
