Reinstall issue - Device Not Connected 0x8007048f

    Question

  • I have had the trial version of WHS installed and running for a month or so and began a full OEM version reinstall tonight.  I had to provide some drivers for my SIL3114 SATA cards (3 of them) in order for all of my drives to be recognized, and the process appeared to begin without a hitch.

Near the end of the process (the screen shows the "Finalizing Installation" process), I get the following error message:  Installing WHS failed:  The device is not Connected.  Error code 0x8007048f.

Following are all the lines/blocks from q_setup.log where the word "Fail" appears:

From this, I'm assuming that the installation program cannot find the D: drive, but I can open explorer and navigate to the folder (D:\shares\Software\Home Server Connector Software\) indicated in the error block.

I have attempted server re-installation twice, with the same result both times.  I have over 3TB data on the shares so am unable to do a new installation.

    Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

  • The device is not connected can point to one of the following situations while attempting to rebuild the tombstones:
Not all drives in the storage pool are connected at the time of installation (did you use external disks in the storage pool?).
Not all drives in the storage pool are detected. This can happen either due to missing drivers or due to a faulty disk.

Also the Windows Home Server DVD should remain in the DVD ROM drive all the time during the installation process.

If you cannot fix the situation, you should try other recovery methods as described in the FAQ How to recover data after server failure.
