Late updates RRS feed

  • Question

  • As I said before in general I am very satisfied with One Care and enjoy feeling protected by it. However, I noticed by chance that Microsoft updates One Care always rather late. For instance, whereas on http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/ you already can see new virus definitions it will take sometimes more than one day until these updates are implemented in One Care - even if you try to update One Care manually (it then just says that One Care is up to date, which it isn't). The only workaround is to download the new updates by yourself.

Maybe Microsoft could speed up the update process slightly so that its customers are even better protected. :)

  • The availability of updates to OneCare depends on a number of things, including testing before deployment. Since OneCare checks for updates in the background several times per day and immediately at first start of the day, your protection is good even if newer signatures are posted to the portal. Note that you can, if desired, download an install the signatures manually, not from within OneCare, though I don't generally recommend it, nor is it needed.

  • Thanks Steve for your reply!

I am not really worried about this. My point was not meant to be major criticism. It's just something I noticed a couple of days ago. I seem to recall that Avira implemented updates slightly faster than OneCare. But I feel save and protected with OneCare anyway so I am basically very satisfied with the OC.

  • No troubles - I didn't read it as a major criticism. :-)
