I need newer version of Windows Genuine Advantage (geniunecheck.exe) for XP RRS feed

  • Question

  • RE: Windows XP Home w/SP3 //  Genuinecheck.exe (v1.9.42.0)

First, if this has anything to do with my problem, I did a "REPAIR" of my copy of XP Home 3 days ago.

I have a copy of Geniune Check installed (shown above).  I use this tool to manually validate my copy of XP when needed to download any updates from MS Updates that requires (needs) software validation before the update/fix can be downloaded.  I do this to download and save the updates so that, when necessary, I can install any updates manually and not have to spend a massive amount of internet time getting updates.

The updates for XP that were just released on Tuesday Oct. 9, 2012, has three(3) updates that needs validation before being downloaded.  I tried to use my copy of GenuineCheck.exe but got a response that "This version of the Windows Geniune Advantage validation tool is no longer supported. Please download the newest version ..... ".

So where can I get a newer version of this tool?  I have been trying to find this.  I can't find it anywhere (so far) for XP.

    Please advise soonest.

    Thanks.

  • I have no problem with any of them in either XP or Win7 providing I use Internet Explorer .

You must access the download page with IE. then click on the Continue button

That forces an ActiveX download which does the validation

There is NO need for genuinecheck at all.

If you still have problems, go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag, and see what that has to say.

  • GenuineCheck is deprecated - and is irrelevant to any problems you may have.

You MUST use Internet Explorer to do ALL validation-related business, currently - MS have managed to break all other options.

  • Ok (I guess).  So is MS going to release a new "genuine check tool" for XP?  I mean, I have, until now, downloaded and saved all the XP updates that I could so that I could perform updates offline after a "REPAIR" or "clean install".  This save a lot of time wasted online to have to download and install updates online.  Can you tell me if there is a alternative download site to download the MS updates other than from MS?  I know that is not recommended but what else can I do?  Thanks.  Oops forgot.  The latest updates on Tuesday I was able to get them and install them ok.  However, there were three(3) updates that required "validation" for downloading and that is where the genuine check tool comes into play.  I was able to get these three updates via the MS Updates ... performing the updates "online".

  • I have no idea what MS is doing with the GenuineCheck system (I don't work for them - I'm just a 'volunteer')

You can (almost) always access updates through the Download Center - using IE - and download them for offline installation. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/default.aspx

  • I just came from the site (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/default.aspx).  I did a check for KB's 2749655, 2661254 and 2756822.  All three updates requires validation before they can be downloaded ... and ... without the validation tool, I can't download and save those updates; at least not now.  I have the updates installed so that's good.  I really do want to download and save them if at all possible.  Thanks for the reply.  Will wait and see if MS will release a new tool (rrrriiiiigggghhhhtttt !!!).  I will unsubscribe to this thread for now.  Again  ...  thanks.

  • I did open IE8 and was able to pass the validation and download and save the latest updates.  Thanks.  However, my primary browser is Firefox and thus I need the validation tool rather than having to use IE.  However, in the meantime, I guess I will have to use IE until (if ever) MS released a new version of the validation tool.  I use IE primary to perform the MS Updates check to see if there are any new updates for XP.  Oh well.  Again, thanks.

  • I am in fact using IE8 (default browser as well), and http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/ says that all the necessary features have passed, however I am still getting the "This version is no longer supported" error. Why is this happening?

  • That KB article is irrelevant to the current problem, which is that the MS servers are serving the wrong links.
