Preserver service failed during startup (Application popup) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi board

I'm experiencing the exact same issue with my RTM version of PP1 as "brubber" has explained in this now locked read-only forum thread: Errors after install of PP1. Everything OK?

Here is the main problem description:

    From system log:

    1. Preserver service failed during startup (Application popup)

    From homeserver log:

    2. Unexpected error 0x0 from DEUtilInitializeSecurity: The operation completed successfully. (EventID 130)

    3. Process whsarch failed at d:\wssg_src\whs_v1se\qhs\src\storage\de\deutil\deutil.cpp(248). (EventID 132)

    4. Unexpected error 0x780 from CreateFile on D:\folders\{00008086-058D-4C89-AB57-A7F909A47AB4}\Commit.dat: The file can not be accessed by the system EventID 272)

    5. Client Backup server failed at d:\wssg_src\whs_v1se\qhs\src\backup\util\diskfile.cpp(145) (EventID 267)

My findings as requested later in that thread are:

    Version of deutil.sys under c:\windows\system32\drivers:  6.0.1800.24

And I get this output when running "sc query defilter" from a command prompt:

            SERVICE_NAME: defilter

            TYPE               : 2  FILE_SYSTEM_DRIVER

            STATE              : 4  RUNNING

                                    (STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, IGNORES_SHUTDOWN))

            WIN32_EXIT_CODE    : 0  (0x0)

            SERVICE_EXIT_CODE  : 0  (0x0)

            CHECKPOINT         : 0x0

            WAIT_HINT          : 0x0

Still I'm seeing the error as descibed above.

Please assist me in solving this issue.

Also note that backup services seems ok and I can access all the shared folders and files within with no issues.

Via the Toolkit v1.1 I have send the logs to MS and got this CAB: 555940736

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • Ken, I've done as you suggest.  Let's see what feedback I'll get.  I'll post any I get here.
