WHS Sync Ability RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there an add-in or application that runs on WHS that will "grab" all of the files of selected folders and stick in one of the shares?  It would be almost the same operation as backup but would sync the files into a useable folder.  For example, I want all of my music I have on three seperate computers connected to the server to be stored in the the "Music" shared folder without having duplicates.  Same for videos and pictures.  I believe SyncToy has to run on the local machine not the server and Robocopy looks like a manual operation.

I don't know about SyncToy, but as I recall, RoboCopy will do that as long as you use it through the command line and set the correct switch(es).

  • I use SyncToy 2.0 but so far not on WHS.  As far as your situation goes would this maybe meet the needs.

If you have three locations of music on either 1 client or 3 client PC's. Why not manually start off by moving all the music files to the Music share on the server. Next go back to the empty client locations where the music was and change the folder location to direct to the \\server\share\music. That way all client PCs work from the same music group and when you add music it puts it on the server. No need to use 3rd party app to grab then. Not sure if that would work since I can't picture the entire setup.
