Please Help: Money Plus Sunset XP to Win7 Transfer Problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Someone, please help me! I have 14 years of Money transactions on my old Dell Dimension running XP Home and Money Sunset Plus v 17. No problems, still working fine. Avast and Online Armor installed.

    I recently bought a new Dell Inspiron Windows 7 Prof, 64 bit and I am almost through with file conversion to the new machine.  Also running Avast and Online Armor. Installed Money Sunset Plus OK from the MS site, sample file works and installed OK.

    But, when I transferred a copy of my XP machine's MNY file from a Seagate external drive, I found the file was not recognized by the new Win7 Money!! First, Money would say "corrupted file or not Money file". I read the forums and MS support sites, uninstalled, did a new install. Money now attempts to load the old MNY file, prompts for password, but crashes with a ".dll error".  Yes, changed to Windows XP SP3 compatibility and ran as Admin. Removed password on old MNY file and will try again tonight.

    I have spent several grueling nights on this and I can't see what I have done wrong or what could be the solution.... please help! Thanks!

  • You should not need the compatibity settings, and I would undo those.

    If your login to the old machine includes a Live ID (both an email address and a password), remove the Live ID. To remove the Live ID, go to File-PasswordManager, and choose to remove your LiveID.  To remove or add a conventional password, also
    see File->PasswordManager. Close Money.

    Try copying a fresh copy of your *.mny and your latest *.mbf file from the old computer to your Documents folder on the new machine via a USB flash drive or your Seagate drive. Make sure Money is closed on both computers first.

    Then open Money on the new machine by double-clicking the *.mny file in Windows Explorer. If that does not succeed, try restoring your latest backup by  double-clicking the *.mbf file.

    If you continue to get an error message, what is the actual error message?

  • I trust that you have placed your *.mny file in your My Documents folder (or Subfolder under My Documents) and not under the Program Files(x86) where your Money application resides.

  • Thank You Very Much! Working!

    Never used LiveID, only signed up to post here.

    Removed regular password, copied both .mny and .mbf to Seagate and plunked them down. Money pulled it right up!

    I love MS Money there is nothing like it on the marketplace. I trust someday Microsoft will re issue it.

    Again my thanks!!!
