  • In order to safely dual boot vista and XP, you would need to have two partitions, and install the XP one first, and then install vista to the second. Vista should automatically pick up the XP partition and create a dual boot. If you do it the other way around, XP overwrites the boot sector and you won't be able to boot to vista at all. There are other ways, but this is by far the easiest. However, my understanding is that you still need to install XP first.

You should be able to create product recovery disks from your machine to get the vista disks, but these may not work as they have been adjusted by the manufacturers. As your machine hsa an oem license, using any other vista disk will mean the license doesn't work with the media, and will invalidate your license anyway. You specifically need an OEM disk to reinstall your vista as a bog standard installation anyway.
