Initial install. 1 or 2 hard drives? RRS feed

  • I am building another whs this time with 2,  500 gig hard drives.

    Is it best to connect 1 hd do the installation then add the next hd or

    connect both initially then install the whs software?

  • If it is a brand new server that you are building and you want both drives in the storage pool, add both and then install Windows Home Server.

  • Personally I just put a single drive in first - installed WHS then added in a futher 3 drives. I dont really think it matters though as I have rebuilt the server a few times with multiple drives attached.

  • Occasionally, there have been reports of people, who when adding a further drive to their one initial drive, have had some delay in the DE moving data about. This has meant that the server has had to be rebooted to kick-start it.
