MachineKeys Cleanup Issue on HPC Head Node RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our head HPC cluster nodes has issue with C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys having 3.5 million files and is 7.3GB and 13.3GB size on disk.  I see in previous thread that SP3 is supposed to stop HpcManagment.exe from creating the 4000 files a day.  We have started to work on a plan to upgrade but with the size of this folder we do not have space necessary.

What is the method to determine which of these keys are needed and delete the rest?

Thanks in advance for the help.

  • Opened a case with MS.

They verified it is safe to cleanup folder.  They recommended leaving a about a week of files.  I ran the following command:

    forfiles /p "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys" /m *243870ed2506 /d -7 /c "cmd /c del @file /F /A:S"

I created task to run nightly to keep directory clean until we can upgrade.

Also note the upgrade process isn't the best since SP are not cumulative.  The process is to upgrade the entire the environment through each SP.
