Vista crashes and restore system fails RRS feed

    Hello,

I have windows vista professional edition 32 bits

I tried to install the ADSL modem of my parents to run internet on my own laptop. I used the regular CD (maybe a little bit old)... During installation, the system crashed (beautiful old school blue screen then reboot). Since then i am no more able to run my system, neither in regular mode nor in "sans echec" (french term for no failure, i don t know the english expression) nor in any kind of mode.

I tried the automatic restauration but the system was unable to complete it.

Information about my error are the followings :

    Problem signature: StartupRepairV2

    01      AutoFailover

    02      6.0.6000.16386.6.0.6000.16386

    03      6

    04      458759

    05      badDriver

    06      BadDriver

    07      0

    08      03

    09      wrpRepair

    10      16386

    System version 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1

    regional parameters      1036

Thus i tried to use restore point. There were 3 of them within the last 5 days. 2 were referring to my failed driver installation, so i chose first the older one. It failed because of an unspecified error (file not found 0x800700002).

I tried with another restore point. Same result.

Maybe this is related to a former problem i had not resolved yet. For some weeks now, i had a message saying there may be a problem on my disk " \\?\volume\8877b0c1_5c89_11dc-a050-0013e87abee9

That this disk was a Fat32 disk but also that it doesn t seem to be a windows disk

After what i was asked if i wanted to check this disk but i didn't have the ability to say yes

So the problem was still there (i have to say i tried chkdsk many time but no problem was found on my 3 partitions)

At the end of this message it was written that the system was unable to write in some "diary" (journal in french)

So currently my system is no more running.

I have no vista CD right now to format my C: partition (only a stupid external recovery CD given to me when i bought my laptop, 9 months ago)

Anybody has an idea on how to find a way to disable these modem drivers or if not to format the C: partition and reinstall vista (i have important information on my other partitions)

    Thanks you

    Emmanuel
