cannot activate windows Xp installed three or four years ago and used windows no problem RRS feed

    have proplem with pc unused for a while   screen comes up to register windows

    hit contiue button  notthing happens  click on icons no response shut off by cutting power

    cannot restore or get into safe mode

    If you cannot get into Safe Mode with Command Prompt, then there’s little we can do for you here – you will need to reinstall Windows.
     
    If you can get into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.....
     

    At the command prompt, type this command exactly (space, caps, and comma are essential):

    rundll32.exe syssetup,SetupOobeBnk

    Restart.

    If you were successful, your activation grace period will have been reset, giving you more time to work on the problem.
