Windows Live Mail 2010 Deletes all my subscribed newsgroups and posts! RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently received an error from Windows Live Mail 2010 that it had recovered the Windows Live Mail database. I have received this error before (which sort of frustrates me), and everything seemed fine. However, this time, everything was gone, both my email folders and newsgroup subscriptions for my newsgroup accounts. I don't care about the email, since I normally view that online anyway, and it is a relatively small amount to redownload, but the newsgroups are taking hours, even though I only download the headers. But also, I had to go through the newsgroup list and resubscribe to the desired newsgroups, and then set the synchronization options for them. Luckily it remembered which messages I had marked as my watched messages (I don't know how, but it did, so I'm at least thankful for that). So here are my questions:

    1. Why does Windows Live Mail 2010 need to recover the database so frequently? I would upgrade to Windows Live Mail 2011 (although I'm not exactly optimistic that it will do it any less often), but that doesn't support threading, so I plan on at least waiting until Windows Live Mail 2012.

    2. Is there any way to export my settings/configuration and currently downloaded posts (I'm assuming this is what the "Windows Live Mail database" is) for Windows Live Mail 2010? This may not protect me from the original error, but at least it would save me from waiting hours for the posts to be redownloaded.

    Thanks.
