Updated Windows Media Player 11-mp3 not working

I updated to Windows Media Player 11 and now my mp3 doesn't sync. I want to go back to WMP 9, but Microsoft wants me to buy it~yeah right, it's free on my computer. I made a huge mistake and don't know how to undo it. I know they have non microsoft sites offering WMP 9 & 10 but I don't trust them. I'm running on a old computer XP3 Windows 98 I think. I just had it redone, like a new computer now. HELP PLEASE~THIS STINKS
