Windows is not genuine for Windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have windows 7 home premium edition.  I am getting a "windows is not genuine" pop up.  It just started in the last week.  Three months ago I replaced my hard drive in my HP laptop, going from 250 gig to 1 terrabite.  My old drive was mirrored.  When I go to start and right click computer and open properties it shows that windows is activiated.  I have tried slui 3 and inputing the activitation code.  Didn't work.  Also when I go to start and windows update, I can't open the window to see the history of updates.  It hangs.  I've read online that uninstalling SP 1 solves the problem with this error code but I don't know how to do that since I get the hang.  Thanks for any help.  Here is the WGA diagnostic.

  • Thank you very much for your reply.  Should I install

    f6flpy-x64.zip

    or

    iata_enu.exe  ?

I am running the 64 bit version of Windows 7.

    Monday, October 15, 2012 9:16 PM
  • iata_enu.exe

The other file is a floppy for installation during Windows install.

  • Thank you Carey and Noel.  I did the installation.  Message that device driver installed correctly.  I've been up for 10 minutes or so.  No pop up yet from Microsoft regarding not having genuine windows.  I'll wait two days and then I feel I will be clear.  I was getting it intermittently.  Thanks again to both!

  • I am going to call it "resolved" now.  I haven't gotten the pop up since the install of the Intel driver and its been over 12 hours.  I also have access to my windows update function and history thru the start button, which I had lost.  You guys are amazing!  Very professional, very accurate!  I made several calls to Microsoft support and got nowhere, except that they wanted me to pay a lot of money when I already had a legitimate product.  THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

  • I find it very depressing that the Support desk frequently ends up sending people here for simple problems such as this - There should be a system for feeding back the forum solutions to the Support people (I've never found any yet, and MS 'let go' the only staffer in the forum three months ago - who was a contractor, rather than a direct MS employee, so had limited feedback channelling ability).

There was a time when WGA support was free :(

I'm of the opinion that anyone working the support desks should be required to also spend time in *random* forums to gain experence of real-world problems and solutions.

  • Thank you again Noel!  One last cynical comment.  The Microsoft telephone support desk did not send me here.  They sent me to another phone support system where they charge for something like three months of service to solve the problem for me by taking over my computer.  It was the same price as buying new Windows 7 software.  When I got upset, the person I spoke with did send me via email a link with a description of one possible solution.  But he didn't ask me for my error code.  So he sent a solution for the wrong error code.  It was no help.  They are trying to make more money.  I had to Google my problem, sift through the various possibilities, got lucky and chose this forum as the best possibility to resolve my problem.  I would have been much happier if they had directly referred me to this forum.
    Tuesday, October 16, 2012 10:20 PM
  • MS Support desks are now outsourced until you get to at least 2nd level (or you're in a fairly esoteric area, I suspect) - the result is that you get a fairly inept operator who only knows how to read a script, and there aren't many scripts dealing with WGA :(

Generally, if you use the Activation Center for assistance, they are pretty good - but the general Support lines are 'variably bad'.
