Restricting Access to a subfolder within an otherwise public folder RRS feed

  • Question

  • There are all kinds of warning not to use the OS in Windows Home Server, to only use the console. However, I would like to set up restricted subfolders in what would otherwise be unrestricted folders like Photos, Videos, Software, Music, & Public. So, for example, if I do not want others to have access to some of my photos, I would like a subdirectory there called MyName, where only I have access to them.   Using the OS, I know how to do that, I just do not want to break anything by by-passing the Console. Does anyone know if this is possible?  Has anyone done it?  Any downsides I may not realize?

  • This is an unsupported scenario and may eventually not work due to inheritance or its blocking - especially if you try to change settings later through dashboard (i.e. after adding a new user).

In WHS v1 a specific home directory for users existed, in WHS 2011 unfortunately no longer.
