Home server name does't IP address does. RRS feed

  • Question

  • This network guru was called in to do some work and he stuffed up everything.

What i have now after undoing all his work is this.

The name https://xxxxxx.homeserver.com will not log in.

The ip address of the server https://192.xxx.x.x will log in.

How do i fix this mess.

    Thanks in advance

  • Time to find a different network "guru", eh?

When you say that the name won't resolve, but the IP address will, you show what looks like an IP address in the 192.168.xxx.yyy address space, which is reserved for private networks (like those we all have at home). Are you testing from within your home? If you are, can you try testing your vanity URL from somewhere like a public library, or a Starbucks, or a friend's house?

  • Try reverting to a previous point in time (before the guru cam along) using system restore points.

If this fails the guru probably set the DNS server handed out by your router to some external DNS server. There's many topics on that overhere, for example have a look at my last post in the thread Re: Unable to ping server by name.

  • Could you check in the console under settings / remote access, that the WHS and router are still configured properly to allow the remote access?

    Best greetings from Germany
