Export/Import Case Subject RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to export the subject options from CRM 4 and import it into CRM 2011. Unfortunately, the Advanced Find has no entry for an entity Subject. How do I get this out from CRM 4 (and into CRM 2011).

The subject tree is really not that big so I could also define it in the proprietary Solution. Will this work with the import and how do I define actual entries for case subjects in a solution?

  • Hi,

Firstly, getting the list of subjects out of V4.. as you say, subject is not available via advanced find or the report wizard so I can think of a couple of options that wouldn't require development; use a SQL query to read the subject table, or depending on the size of your V4 organisation and resources you have available, create a virtual machine and run a backup of your V4 database through an upgrade to 2011 so you can use advanced find to export the subjects. Obviously, the first option is much quicker.

Secondly, you need to use the data import feature in CRM2011 to import the subjects. Solutions do not provide the facility to transport the subject tree. NOTE: if/when you do this, ensure your csv file is ordered in such a way that the 'parent' subjects are imported before the child subjects or they won't be able to form the correct relationships.
