Can't activate WinXP Pro (2nd Try) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hopefully I've got the right info. this time. The MGADT report is below and answers to the other questions are prior.

    1. Version: XP-Pro Upgrade w/SP2

    2. Not OEM, it was purchased retail (office depot if I remember correctly). All the labeling, cdrom... all appears to be the same as that on the COA website.

    3. No computer manufactuer's information in title, on boot...

    4. Customer Scenario as follows: I have 2 copies of XP, one XP-Pro and one XP-Home. I am trying to get 2 computers up and going, let's call them Machines H and P. I accidentally put XP-Pro on machine H when it should have been installed with my copy XP-Home. I reinstalled H with XP-Home. Then installed XP-Pro on machine P. Machine P now won't activate, apparently because it was activated on machine H by mistake.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but machine P is a Dell that does have a valid OEM sticker and license... but I don't have the OEM media for it, so I'm using a retail upgrade for it.

    From the Desktop:

Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then Activate Windows.

Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the taskbar notification area next to the clock.

    2.

Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows now.

    3.

Click Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement, click Back, and then click Next.

    4.

Follow the steps in the “Activate Windows by phone” dialog box, and then click Next.

Note The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.

    5.

When activation is completed and you receive the following message:
