Coding Challenge I - SOLVED

Question
-
Hey guys, i started the quiz exactly on 00:00. It was a good quiz . I solved both the questions ( expecting 1000 poitns now)
First let me mention any kinds of the discussions about the questions that are asked in the quiz is strictly prohibited, and will result in the deletion of the account. Please do not post questions or ask queries about the quiz questions while the quiz is going on on the 22nd and 23rd sept.
Only discussions on how fair you did in the quiz, and how many points you expect, is to be done in this thread.
As usual one question was easy, one was tough. It is up to the standard that we can expect from Microsoft. The timelimit is very apt for the kind of question they asked.
I hope you guys also solve the quiz as i did. May be i am in one of the first few people to solve the quiz
Common guys, join me............ Whos next..........Friday, September 21, 2007 8:32 PM

@Harshil,
I understand about your insistence on certain points. I remember the great incident that happened with a similiar thread post in the last edition.
I wonder where our good friend Jabed is???
Friday, September 21, 2007 11:33 PM -
@Adnan - Even i am missing Jabed, after all the criticism being throwed upon me just because of the anger not to be in the top rank. haha, I doubt he ever came online after the contest got over. I hope he comes back, but with a better attitude this timeSaturday, September 22, 2007 4:14 AM

Hey krunal, you can find the quiz link on the rockstar site under the CODING CHALLENGE link, Click on it, and it will open a new page asking your username. Enter the same username that you used to register for the rockstar contest. And then once you enter the coding challenge, you shall see Coding Challenge 1, click on that, and you will be presented upion a good interface where you will be spending all the time coding over tehre. You can write your code, there, compule it, test, it etc etc.
You will have to complet ethe quiz within the specified time limit. But make sure to SUBMIT, the solution once you complete it, If you dont submit the solution then you will not get the points. Make sure to do submit it.
If you have any other doubts please ask here, but make sure not to ask regarding the questions that are asked in the quiz while the quiz is going on (i.e. on 22, 23rdSaturday, September 22, 2007 4:18 AM -

Hey jabed, its good to see you back here. But sad to know that you wont be actively taking part in this contest. You gave a good fight in the contest last time
Was wishing for the same this time too.
But anyways, good to know that you are goidn abroad. Hope you do well there and have a good career. Bt do stay online in the forums and in touch with the members.
Thats all i can say, and if you want to remember the old times of the quiz, you can attend the quiz i guessand try to solve it if you are interested.

I think you faced a hard question. Even i faced one ahrd question and one was easy. Today my other college friends tried to give the quiz, they was presented with 2 questions which was damn easy. Haha, i think there was unjust, or a matter of luck.
I think todays quiz is easier compared to yesterdays (one which was tough and lengthy)
More about it to come on Monday...... Keep waiting....Saturday, September 22, 2007 11:56 AM -
when can we expect the points for coding challenge???Saturday, September 22, 2007 4:37 PM
-
@Mohan
for code challenge you must use the same id which you have used for student rockstar
Saturday, September 22, 2007 6:37 PM -
@Anmol
U can expect the points by next month's 1st week(that has been the norm last time)
@Harshil
I too solved it yesterday. One was tough and lengthy. Shouldnt the playing field be level for all? Or is it that your college friends are champ coders, which made them feel the questions easy?Saturday, September 22, 2007 8:34 PM -
I do agree that one of them was a bit hard but the other was simple enough(according to the author)
I could only manage one of them completely correct and should have done away with the second too had I got a little more time for that.Sunday, September 23, 2007 1:50 PM -
Both questions were amazingly simple. I guess Microsoft is just warming up.
I doubt I will get 1k points. I sent way too many compilation requests to the server with silly mistakes like forgetting to put semicolon and simple syntax errors
(was coding VB.NET for weeks now
)

even for me it was the same....one was really a straight forward pgm and the other was a bit difficult(compared to the 1st)...i managed to complete both the programs within the time alloted...Sunday, September 23, 2007 3:28 PM

Will somebody please elaborate what's this 80% - 50% criterion in the coding Challenge ? I mean 80% of what ???Sunday, September 23, 2007 5:55 PM
-
hmmm. i didnt like the way the instructions were given.. totally abstract way of instructing..
I spent half an hour looking for the things i need to do and wher to do..
Sunday, September 23, 2007 6:27 PM -
based on various criteria ur pgm will be evaluated,like getting o/p,efficiency,ability to handle invalid i/p etc...
in that if u get abobe 80%ull b awarde4d 1000 pts...Sunday, September 23, 2007 11:39 PM -

Tiere will be points alloted to different criterias about the quiz that you gave. Based on the total point, they will calculate the percentage out of the max, and if you get 80%+ then you will get 1000 points in the rockstar quiz event
So if the quiz event is of 100 marks, you only need to score80 to get 1000 points in rockstar, or even 100 points in quiz will only fetch you 1000 points in rockstarIts better to get 100/100

Well, I too gave the test... some were good and some were tough.. because of the small trick hidden in the quiz...
I had one question in which i had to use the STL, I had never used any before, but then i learned it fast, and the quiz became very very easy... the code became so small... from my 25 line, it came down to 5 line....Monday, September 24, 2007 4:21 AM -
yeah i too had a nice experience in coding challenge.. Quite easier questionsMonday, September 24, 2007 5:20 AM

I too got very simple questions...

I also gave quiz, i felt both was a bit hard, but i will soon catch up
Saturday, October 6, 2007 6:57 PM -
i guess the upcoming coding challenges will b much harder than the first...Saturday, October 6, 2007 7:22 PM

@Jayakumar
I dont think so .. I think one question will be Easy and one will be tough ... All the Time !!
Sunday, October 7, 2007 2:09 AM -
ya asusual one will be easy and other will be hard...thats the main idea behing this coding challenge...Sunday, October 7, 2007 4:00 AM

hello
sometimes rights forum for us........Sunday, October 7, 2007 4:10 AM -
Well, even they intend to keep the format this way.. 1 simple and 1 tough... but what i observed was that most of the questions were repeated from the last contest.... so the people who had given all the coding challenges last time and also observed other questions will have an advantage.......
One tip, start using the STL in C++, this will help you lot in improving the coding skills and also sometimes they are asked in the challenges... so better prepare well before...Sunday, October 7, 2007 4:21 AM -
Hey Varun , even i feel the same about the repetation of the questions
STL will be really useful for everyone in their profesional life if they opt for C++. We should all learn it. In the last rockstar contest's codiing challenge, i was faced with 1-2 STL questions. I just learnt it online, and then gave the quiz. Its really easy , and will also reduce the code drastically, also the code will be easily managable
I think everyone should atleast try it before the 2nd quiz contest starts, so that they dont feel awkward while giving the quiz if stl is asked
if there are any questions about STL, there is already a thread about it, have a look at if, if you cant find, then you can ask questions in the Tech section of this forum.Sunday, October 7, 2007 5:39 AM -
Thatz true Harshil, we should all practice it well before the next challenge.. so all the best to everyone...
