Networking hardware issues with Windows 7

Question
-
Seems that Windows 7 has issues with certain motherboard based network controllers for Dell systems like the 530/530S. We have resolved these issues by disabling the onboard NIC and adding a cheap "Windows 7 compatible" NIC. Can someone please explain technically what the issue is from a hardware and software standpoint. And explain why after so many years..network adapters are becoming a problem again.
Thanks!

No, I think that MS has screwed up the old MS partner forums and I can't find them any more!
