  • I am currently re-installing windows XP on my step-moms computer as her hard drive crashed. I have the copy of window activated but keeps telling me it is not genuine even after trying to make it genuine.

    The report says it’s genuine as well but I’m a little concerned about a couple of things.
    It seems to be an OEM System Builder license, but would appear to have been installed from a Gateway Recovery disk, while the machine is a Hewlett Packard.
     
    What Anti-Virus are you using?
    What version of the OS is the computer license for according to the COA sticker on the case?
     
    What happens if you go to the Validation site at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate?
