Won't pass validatoin RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just got this Windows XP disc and COA but it will not pass when I installed it and tried to update.  I got this message:

The Windows product key installed on this computer was not assigned by Microsoft. You may be a victim of counterfeit software. Learn more about getting genuine with the options below.

Actually, the first time It ran the validation it passed!  Then for some reason it ran again and failed.  It thanked me for using valid microsoft software and everything.

I got this info from the validator tool:

The Microsoft licensing kit you just purchased has installed a Volume Licensing edition of XP, and the Product Key used to do so is invalid, meaning that it was made with a "key generator" pirating program.

Quite often software pirates will make counterfeit CDs that have a systembuilder/OEM/small manufacturer's label on them but the "bits" contained on the CD are actually Volume Licensing bits.

My suggestion would be to immediately return the product to the place of purchase and get either the Genuine software you paid for, or a full refund.
