Hello jonroy,
Does your computer have a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) sticker affixed to the case? Look on the sides, top, rear, and bottom. If it does, tell us the version and edition of Windows listed on it, but DO NOT post the product key.
Are you using a burned disc to install Windows, or are you using a genuine hologrammed Microsoft Windows installation disc or are you using a manufacturer's recovery disc to install Windows?

Carey FrischNot quite correct Carey – there is ‘a’ Key in many XP disks, but it’s blocked from activation.

apart from the product code on the tower theres 3 sets of numerals
05D481(located above the product code)
00043-567-584-318(located below the barcode)
X10-23534(along the right side of the tag, text is vertical also)
as for carey, if you do a windows search of the disc for unattend.txt youll find the file. at the very bottom of the text file it lists the product code

Your computer appears to be OEM Licensed for XP Home Edition – You need to use that type of disk to reinstall, together with your Product Key from the sticker.
