Slow first time access to server shares

Question
-
Hi,When my laptop have been sleeping or have restarted, I experience very slow first time access to my WHS2011 shared folders. For example if I access "\\server\documents" it will take 20-30 seconds before I see the content. From then on all access is fast...This never happened with WHS1 which is why I think the problem is the WHS2011 server. It also seems to be related to netbios as I'm able to ping the server just fine while explorer tries to open the share.Anyone got an idea what the problem here is?--WernerWednesday, December 21, 2011 8:17 PM

Hi all,
Tested and it was...the private network firewall! Enable it, and first time access is very slow. My disc was also set to sleep after 30 minutes so I've up'ed that to 120 minutes just to be safe.
Thanks for all your valid suggestions.

Hi Phil,
Nope, but I disabled Windows Firewall on the internal network; it might be the problem. I will find out when I get home from work later.

This happened to me, never did in version 1. It was the hard drives sleeping and taking a bit to wake up. Same goes for remote access .Thursday, December 22, 2011 11:19 AM

Hm really? To be honest, I'm not 100% sure - where do I control that?--

You will either need to log in locally or remote to your Server Desktop. It's in the Control Panel, Power Options, Advanced - the default is for disks to sleep after 30 minutes.

Wow I didn't know that. That must be it, because I haven't touched those settings.
I have something to work with when I get home, and I will report back tonight. Thanks both.
