Remove the Favorites Button in IE 8 RRS feed

  • Question

  • How do I remove the Favorites Button from IE 8. That whole row is wasting alot of space and the favorites can be reached through the menu bar. Editing the registry is ok. I just want it gone!

  • open "run" write "regedit"

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions
If you dont have all path create.
add "DWORD" with name "NoFavorites" to 1.

  • You can also hide Favorites Bar.

    To hide the Favorites Bar:

    1. Right-click on an empty space in the IE toolbar.

    2. When the context menu appears, select Favorites Bar to remove the checkmark.

  • The problem is the OP asked how to remove the Favorites Button, not the Favorites menu.  Even if you indicate that you don't want the Favorites Bar displayed, the Favorites button gets shoved, immovable, to the left of the Tabs.  The OP wants to remove that button.  I have tried the tweaks you linked to,  there is one there called Btn_Favorites - but I cannot remove that useless Favorites button.

    Anyone have any success?

  • Thanks, Andre.

Should I have to create the whole tree in my registry?

I assume you meant to say HKEY_CURRENT_USER (singular). Even then I can only drill to "Policies\Microsoft". Should I create "Internet Explorer\Restrictions" under that, then add the DWORD?

Thanks again for your help with this. I don't mind doing minor registry editing, but don't want to get fancier than I need to!

  • I am coming to the conclusion that I just need to uninstall IE8 and go back to IE7 or just quit using it completely and download Firefox.  Microsoft seems to think they know what we want as users and obviously they are clueless!
