Laptop Crashed

Question

My first time posting on a forum so please excuse any errors as I'm not especially technically minded in IT matters. My laptop crashed yesterday when browsing the net. The laptop is about 3 months old and I have McAfee security software installed. Anyway, it would not boot up in any way, shape or form. My laptop came with no installation disk and I hadn't created a boot disk (foolish I know). To cut a long story short, my son has exactly the same model laptop as mine so I created a boot disk this morning on his laptop. I then proceded to install the boot disk and this has been successful. My problem now is that it says that Windows 7 is not a genuine product because obviously our 2 laptops activation keys are different. I wouldn't dream of using counterfeit software. Should I phone Microsoft(UK) up on Monday morning and hope that they can resolve the problem? Are they able to re-activate my original Windows 7 premium or will they expect me to purchase an activation key? Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you.Saturday, January 22, 2011 6:03 PM

Your machine (assuming the two are identical) shouldn't have had any problems -To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

Hello merchant seaman,
Your last post suggests that the issue is resolved yet Noel's post was basically requesting additional information. Can you describe how Noel's post resolved your issue or if the issue is not resolved, are you able to post a Diagnostic Report so we may help you resolve the issue?
Thank you,
