Margin Issues with Word 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm creating a letterhead for my company with the first page set up as

    Margins:

    top - 2.25"

    Bottom - -1.8"

    Left - 2"

    Right - 0.75"

I have images on my footer and header, and i have the document set up so when the user goes to the next page the header and footer does not follow :). the issue is, that my boss wants me to configure the second page to different margins. Now, the document is open as a single page, but if the user goes to the second page to extend the letter the margins should change. this is the issue i am having.

can anyone please help me out with this.

    thank you in advanced :)

please note that this discussion is actually off-topic in a Developer forum. You'd probably get a lot more useful input at:

Where's you'll find many more people who do work like this than here :-)

Unfortunately, we're not able to move discussions between MSDN and the "Communities"...

But FWIW, put the "side image" in the header/footer area, for starters. That will prevent it from being moved accidentally while the user is writing the letter. If you are worried about it appearing on the following pages, set "Different First Page" for the header (or footer, depending on to which you anchor the image). Then add the "image" to the first page header (or footer) rather than the "normal" one.

Beyond that, you'd need to enforce some kind of document protection which can have adverse effects on what functionality is available to the user. So you need to carefully think through just how "locked" that image needs to be. It's possible you may end up needing a code solution in the end to check for the presence and position of the image before printing/saving.

  • great article. thank you, but not what i'm looking for. I have the formatting of the first page the way i want it, but the client wants it in a way if the person goes over the first page the margins should switch to 1" all around.

thank you for your help in advanced

  • Hi BJTechNews

The problem with what you want to do is that margins are section-level formatting. That means you can only change them / document section. They cannot be changed / page, or "from this point forward", such as WordPerfect could do.

So if you don't want to force your users to create a section break, or have to work around a section break between the first and following pages, you need a "creative" solution, such as the suggestion in the link Stefan provided you. There is no "simple" solution.
