Is it safe to rename a Head Node? (HPC 2008 R2) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Quick question - we have a HPC 2008 R2 Head node which currently has 2 worker nodes configured.

We've been asked to rename the machine that hosts the head node, is there a document or process that needs to be followed so this can happen smoothly? Or is HPC resilient enough to react to the new name automatically?

    Thanks,
    Rob

  • Unfortunately, renaming HN is not supported by HPC.

Is there any concern to re-install the cluster?

Installing a three-node cluster should be very fast.

  • Thanks for replying,

Just so I'm clear then - the process should be:

1 - Uninstall HPC from all nodes

    2 - Rename the HN

3 - Reinstall HPC to all nodes

    4 - Reconfigure as before

    Is that it?
