My Forums Threads "selected forums" filters should be links RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • First of all, let me say, "Nice changes in today's new forum software!" There are many improvements.  Keep up the good work.

I think the "selected forums" chips in the left bar should function as links to the individual forums.  Right now they are nothing but labels and X's to remove the filter.  Making them a link too would be useful.  They are really bold looking now (perhaps too much so) and they draw my attention a lot.  So it makes me want to investigate particular forums by clicking on them.  But that doesn't happen because they aren't links.

  • Funny, I was about to make the exact same suggestion as well.

  • Thank you for the suggestion! I think this would be great to implement. What do believe the expected behavior to be? I could see the block being clicked and the others forums being removed (scoping the user directly into that single forum). Another approach would be to click on a single block and the others being grayed out but maintained on the page.

  • Have the name of the forum to be a link. So, I can right click on it and open this forum in a new tab or just open that forum from my current view if I click on that link.

  • Naomi, so clearing the other blocks in your current view would be sufficient? This would be the same as a link to an individual forum.

  • If we have the left side as links, this will serve as an additional way to navigate. In other words, I would most likely use it by right clicking on that forum's link and opening in a new tab while retaining my current view.

  • You can clear the other blocks provided that there's a way to get them back.

Either by navigating back (back button in browser) or by restoring the filter (perhaps by navigating to "My Forums Threads" again.)

Note:  What I would not want to see is to have My Forums get reset to just that one forum permanently.  That would be totally wrong.

I was thinking it would literally just be a hyperlink to the forum.  (the ^/threads link of the particular forum that corresponds to the chip.  Just like all the forum names link in "My Forums" page.)
