Update the single disk on the LX195 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Before powering up and installing my new HP LX195, replacing my older generic WHS, I would like to update/replace the 640MB single SATA disk with a larger 1.5TB SATA. I have been advised to "CLONE" the drive to the new one, but it isn't, as yet operating in a system. Could I remove the drive, connect the 640MB drive to a windows PC via the SATA port, then clone it to the 1.5TB drive on another SATA connection. The actual cloning software would be running on the windows PC, not on a WHS machine. Then do the original start-up of WHS with the new drive installed. I could just connect the 1.5TB machine to the LX195 via a USB port, the only kind available, but I have no idea how to clone to the drive under WHS.

  • You could try cloning the system drive as described. It's not supported, however. The supported alternative would be to simply replace the drive now, then use the server recovery disk to perform a factory reset following the procedure in the manual.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
