Understanding CRM Online 2013 User Rights RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all-

I am trying to understand the User Rights matrix for CRM Online 2013 across Pro, Basic, and Essential.  In previous lists, the documentation included specifics such as "Create Custom Entity Records" or "Write Notes", which made this much easier to discern what each user license allowed.  Now I see things like "Notes" and "Activity Management", which are both vague; yet there is also "Write Custom Entity Records" and nowhere does it show me "Create Custom Entity Records".  While I understand that I can set these various privileges within the Security Role, I still need the ability to determine which license to use as the first step.

If anyone can point me to a better document than what I have found on the MSFT site or can provide some additional details, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Tom

  • Hi Tom,

Is this the document you found?

The long and the short of it is, if you need to use custom entities, or really customize the system at all, you're going to need the Professional License. Basic and Essential are really for those Microsoft customers that plan to use CRM "out of the box."

Basic does allow some basic CRM access, but excludes SFA, Marketing Campaigns, etc. Typically, our customers seem to gravitate towards Professional licenses just because this gives them the ultimate flexibility to customize their system as needed and not worry if certain sets of users won't have access to functionality.

    Hope this helps.
