Upgrade Path from MCSA 2008 to MCSE 2012 changed? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

did the upgrade path to get from MCSA 2008 to MCSE 2012 change in the last weeks?

according to this thread (and the microsoft page at the time) it was:

    MCSA 2008 to MCSA 2012 - 70-417

    MCSA 2012 to MCSE 2012 - 70-413 and 70-414

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en/CertGeneral/thread/355059fb-a792-4e3e-a9d5-47d36904dd72

when i check the MCSE 2012 page now, the following was added:

    • MCITP: Virtualization Administrator

    • MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator

    • MCITP: Lync Server Administrator

    • MCITP: SharePoint Administrator

    • Enterprise Desktop Administrator

    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/mcse-server-infrastructure-certification.aspx

    Does this mean i have to complete 70-417, 70-410, 70-411, 70-412, 70-413, 70-414 now to get from MSCA 2008 to MCSE 2012?

If you already have MCSA Windows Server 2008. You will need to do the following,-

    1. 70-417 : Upgrading Your Skills to MCSA Windows Server 2012 [Verify @ http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/mcsa-windows-server-certification.aspx]

Then in order to get MCSE Server Infrastructure as per your thread post,-

    1. 70-413 : Designing and Implementing a Server Infrastructure
    2. 70-414 : Implementing an Advanced Server Infrastructure

    Cheers.

  • Hi,

First, you must ask yourself. Which MCSE are you referring to?

There are various type of MCSE certification available, check out - http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/mcse-certification.aspx

    1. MCSE Server Infrastructure
    2. MCSE Desktop Infrastructure
    3. MCSE Private Cloud
    4. MCSE Data Platform
    5. MCSE Business Intelligence
    6. MCSE Messaging
    7. MCSE Communication
    8. MCSE SharePoint

In order to attain any of the above mentioned MCSE, you need MCSA Windows Server 2012.

What which may be confusing on the part of the upgrade from MCITP to MCSE is that, you will still need to do the upgrade paper of 70-417 (to upgrade any of the mentioned MCITP certification to MCSA Windows Server 2012 - Which then meets the basic requirements)

From there, take the necessary paper to attain MCSE for the various technology / product.

    Cheers.

  • Hi,

    that is exactly my problem:

the path you described from MCSA Server 2012 to MCSE Server Infrastructure is not mentioned on the certification page (it was changed after the date of the other thread).

I would like to have a confirmation  that the path is still exists.

  • @ Mr. Wharty

as you proposed miltongohs post as answer, can you confirm that the described (old) upgrade path is valid?
