Should I take the 70-290 exam OR the upgrade?, PLEASE HELP

Question
-
Hi,
I want to re-enter the IT market of servers, after a long time not working in the particular field of servers,
I thought it's best to complete my MCSA\E, and in the future to achieve more certificates,
I took only the 70-270 exam.
My question is; do I need to complete the 70-290/70-291 exams for the MCSA\E, OR should I take the new exams (the upgrade)?
Thank you

There is no upgrade path from MCSA/MCSE 2003, the exams required to finish that certification have been retired an also the upgrade exams to Server 2008 have been retired. There is ony an upgrade path for Server 2008 MCITP certification.
Your best option is to start with the MCSA: Server 2012 certification (3 exams)
https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/mcsa-windows-server-certification.aspx
From there you can move on to MCSE: Server infrastructure by passing two additional exams:
https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/mcse-server-infrastructure-certification.aspx
The MCSA exams have self-paced sudy books available from MS-Press that you can use, using video based training like CBT nuggets is also on option.

Hi
If you can upgrade then it is normally 2 exams for MCSE/MCSA, if you want to do them all it is a few more.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

70-290 and 70-291 are retired last year and you can't take them anymore. Threso you can not take upgrade path to MCSA Windows Server.
This is path you can take for MCSA/MCSE:
