Connecting to Mesh objects RRS feed

  • Question

  • Let's say I invite 10,000 of my closest friends :) to connect to a Mesh object on my desktop that's synchronized to the cloud. What happens? Are there any limits to the number of people who can share a Mesh object? Basically, is it Mesh's problem, so to speak, to add resources to allow a "hot" file to be available across the Mesh?

  • This blog post should answer the question for you - http://blogs.msdn.com/livemesh/archive/2008/08/13/the-potential-of-live-mesh-is-limitless.aspx

You can only invite 200 users to a folder.

  • Stephen,

Thanks for the reference. Looks like these are guidelines... probably it will accept more. I wonder if each of the 200 connecting can make a copy and connect 200 more? Basically is sounds like given a business case, the number could be pretty large, as I doubt there's any particular technical reason limiting the numbers.

  • If they make a copy of the folder and then share it out, yes, they can share with up to 200 more people. They cannot, however, share out your original folder directly that they have been invited to. And, they cannot make their local Mesh copy of your folder (a blue Mesh folder synchronizing with yours) into a folder in another Mesh for a cascading sync. They would need to manually copy the data to another Mesh folder in order to share it out.
