When Tune-up lingers at 90% it typically means that it has found some infected files and is taking action on them, which can take a very long time. If OneCare doesn't move on from that point (and 8 hours for a scan is pretty excessive), it may indicate that it can't deal with the infection it has found and you should contact support.

I have the same problem...it just started recently. But when the tune up is almost done, it gives me an error that the MsMpEng.exe service cannot be re-started, and my computer would be shut down.Sunday, November 16, 2008 7:33 PM

I'm having similar issues with the Tune-Up. It has gone through the first two stages, sometimes completed sometimes just failed and gone on, but the virus scan gets caught up at 35%, the location says its in the OneCare files--something called ClientSD. It seems fishy to me, since the tag says "Folder is Empty."
In addition, the last three or so weeks I have been unable to visit the Windows Update website or view my Add or Remove Programs window (it is just blank.) Either way, my laptop freezes and I need to re-boot.Sunday, December 7, 2008 10:28 PM -
