Cannot open Control Panel or Desktop Personalization RRS feed

  • Question

  • For a couple of days now I have not been able to see my Control Panel. I have done some research and have determined that the reason is because Software Licensing is not starting, the reason being that it cannot find the file. This is the second time this has happened, the first time I upgraded and replaced the system files and that worked, but is there a way to do it without reinstalling?

    Thanks

Answers

  • Solved it by going to regedit.

    Windows key + r
    regedit
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\slsvc
    Right-click
    New Multi-String Value
    Name it "ImagePath" (w/out quotes)
    Double-click on it
Set the value to "%SystemRoot%\system32\SLsvc.exe" (once again, w/out quotes)
    OK
    Start Software Licensing.

May be due to Windows update of Eusing free registry cleaner.

  • Any new information on this?

I currently have the same problem on Windows 7.0   In addition the icons on my desktop only display the file size instead of the filename.  Can anyone help?
