Transfer Office 2003 Professional to another computer RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Microsoft Office 2003 Professional installed on this computer, but want to delete from here and transfer it to another computer.  I do not have the original installation disk anymore, but used a keyfinder program to get the product key for office off of this computer.  Ive run Genuine Advantage to confirm office's authenticity.  I used an Office 2003 pro disk from someone else to install on the new computer.  However, when installing on the other computer, it says the key is invalid.  I also tried installing from an old archived iso image for Office 2003 pro downloaded from the internet, with the same result of an invalid key.  Ive looked at other posts, and see that they usually ask for the MGA Diagnostics information, so here it is:

  • Hello thestealthpenguin,

    Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 100 Genuine
    Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 100 Genuine
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 77F760FE-153-80070002_7E90FEE8-175-80070002_025D1FF3-230-1_025D1FF3-238-2_025D1FF3-258-3_E2AD56EA-765-d003_E2AD56EA-766-0_E2AD56EA-134-80004005

    The mgadiag report is showing that your installation of Office Professional 2003 on your Dell Latitude D620 laptop is Genuiune.

    Please refer to this other snippet:

    ><Name>Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003</Name><Ver>11</Ver><Val>54DE73A2ACE970A</Val><Hash>67n8Er5wVrspDUxthR20VWllDoc=</Hash><Pid>70145-OEM-5790185-17845</Pid><PidType>6</PidType></Product></Products><Applications><App Id="15" Version="11" Result="100"/><App Id="16" Version="11" Result="100"/><App Id="18" Version="11" Result="100"/><App Id="19" Version="11" Result="100"/><App Id="1A" Version="11" Result="100"/><App Id="1B" Version="11" Result="100"/><App Id="44" Version="11" Result="100"/></Applications></Office></Software></GenuineResults>

    Note that the mgadiag utility is telling us that the Office Professional 2003 license installed on this computer is an OEM license.  The End User Licensing Agreement (EULA) for Office 2003 does not permit OEM license to be moved from the computer onto which it was originally installed, to any other computer.  Therefore, the license does NOT permit you to do what you are trying to do which is to move this license for Office from this computer to another computer.

  • Thank you very much for the detailed answer.  I see i can not do what i had hoped for.  This laptop was used by another employee at our company that is no longer with us.  If we want to wipe it clean (format and reinstall the OS) will we be able to use a Office 2003 Pro install disk and the key that I have to reinstall it on this SAME computer?

  • Hello thestealthpenguin,

    Yes, you are permitted by the EULA to cleanly install/reinstall the operating system and Office licenses that came with this computer onto this computer any number of times.

    If you see a blue bar with www.dell.com at the top of the screen for two seconds after the Dell logo but before the Windows startup logo, that means you should be able to use Dell PC Restore to put a fresh factory installation of Windows onto the computer.  Press CTRL + F11 while the blue bar is displayed to access Dell PC Restore.

    You will have to use the genuine hologrammed Microsoft Office installation discs provided by Dell with the computer when new to do a clean/reinstall of Office.  The product key is on the CoA that is affixed to the plain white paperboard Office CD sleeve that Dell shipped with the computer.
