Asked by:
IVR using OCS 2007

Question
-
We are trying to build IVR applicaition using OCS Enterprise deployment. We kind of new to this technology.
We have switch , which routes a specific voip number to our test server, where we have installed OCS. When we try to
call the number through regular phone, it is suuposed to log the details in the OCS sever DB. Not sure where the call is going.
We dont have any routes setup on the OCS sever, as the there is nothing in the Gateway dropdown. Do we have to setup any mediation server for making all this work, or just the enterprise deployment is enough
Please help in resolving this issue,Monday, October 5, 2009 12:24 AM

A Mediation server is required for any voice deployment with the PSTN or other PBX solution with OCS. The SIP traffic should be forwarded to the OCS Mediation server and not to the front end server.
Are you implementing a third party IVR or are you looking at using Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging for IVR? OCS isn't the product for IVR but is integrated with Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging.

No problem Durga. Exchange UM is available in Exchange 2007 and 2010. There are a few resources below to assist you.

This is a good feature comparison to Cisco Unity: https://blogs.pointbridge.com/Blogs/mcgillen_matt/Pages/Post.aspx?_ID=5

Hi
I think you'd better learn more about the mediation server.
About how to deploy the mediation server you can refer to below link
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd441327(office.13).aspx
Did you deploy the OCS FE and Mediation server in different domain?
And do you have do the domain prep for the child domain, To install or activate Mediation Server you must be a member of the RTCUniversalServerAdmins group or have been delegated to perform these tasks by a member of that group. The above link will lead you.

We dont see any group server ,where we are planning to install mediation server
RTCUniversalServerAdmins
We did all the domain prep at the begining of the install.
We are trying to make this work ASAP. we dont have proper log also. It just says access denied, when activating the mediation serverThursday, October 15, 2009 5:12 PM -

Hi,Please note that you can implement IVR system using Microsoft Speech Server (which is included with the OCS 2007 R1,R2); for more information about speech server capabilities, check the below links:http://blogs.msdn.com/midunn/archive/2008/06/17/integrating-speech-server-with-office-communications-server.aspxRegarding the implementation scenarios:if you are to use this IVR for the internal users only (all you need is OCS Front-End server, and Speech Server)IVR for internal and External (internet) users (OCS Front-End server, OCS Edge Server Role, and Speech Server)IVR for Internal, External, and PSTN or another PBX System ( OCS Front-End server, OCS Edge Server Role, Mediation Server, and Speech Server)Regards,Mohammad SaeedFriday, December 18, 2009 12:23 PM
