Fetlife app allowed into Windows Phone 8 marketplace? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I'm interested in developing an app for Fetlife, which is a /BDSM/kink/fetish social network.

While the app itself wouldn't contain any problematic content it will allow the user to access the above type of material.  But then again you can say the same about a browser.

How do I find out whether it's likely to be accepted or not.  Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I'm new to all this. : )

    Cheers.

  • The content guidelines for Windows Phone 7 are on MSDN - it may fall into what you want to do with your app, but the most obvious one that you might fall foul of is "Content depicting sexual fetishes.".I would expect the Windows Phone 8 (and Windows 8) marketplaces to follow the same guidelines. It may also be worth reading this post on the Windows Phone developer blog

If you were to pursue the idea, it would also be better to avoid targeting the more conservative regions (listed at the bottom of that same page), in addition to carefully thinking through what content comes through (perhaps some form of age verification, or using an existing log-in system, assuming you have one).

All of this could be side-stepped by having a mobile version of your website, and suggesting that users "pin to start" from the context menu in IE for a similar experience (this could also help measure demand)
