Remote Access / Domain name RRS feed

  • Question

  • At one time I could access my server from any other computer on the web (aka remote access). I am using a Free DNS for my domain name. When I configured WHS for remote access I changed the access name from "http://myserver.homeserver.com" to "http://myserver.mydomain.com" and all worked well.
Recently I lost access. I went into WHS to check the Remote access settings and they had defaulted to "myserver.homeserver.com". I am now not able to change the "homeserver.com" back to "mydomain.com". When WHS remote access runs connection verification in Remote Access Settings everything checks out OK except that the domain name "may not configured properly". Maybe I am missing a step and cannot stumble on it or did MS restict domain names? Any help will be appreciated.

There is no way to change to from homeserver.com to mydomain.com from within the WHS interface, so whatever you did before was unsupported.  Having said that, did you ever have an outside (i.e. online) DNS service setup (to forward your mydomain.com address to your external IP address)?
