Non- Genuine Vista? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I also get the " copy of windows Vista is not genuine" on my desktop.  This appeared after I tried to install service pack 2 for Vista home premium 64bit.  It failed at the last second and reverted back.  Once I relogged on this watermark appeared on my desktop.  Any idea on what I have to do to remove the watermark, and to install the service pack 2?  Diagnostic report follows:

  • Hello Kiwifeller,

Your Diagnostic Report shows your Vista and Office as Gnuin and I see no other error codes.

Would you reboot your computer twice, real quick.

The reason I asked you to do that is I believe that when the Service Pack 2 failed to install, an error ocured and Vista momentarily went into a Non-Genuine state and then returned to normal (the whol thing probably only took less then a sec or so).  Unfortunatly, it can take some of Vista's systems up to two reboots to reset back to the Genuine state.  That Non-Genuine Watermark on your desktop is one of those systems that sometimes can take two reboots to reset.

So once you complete the second reboot (the first reboot may even do it), the watermark should be completly gone.

    Hope that helps,
    Darin MS
