  • ter_ee_sa,

Thank you for visiting the OneCare program forums.

The error message you are receiving usually indicates that it may be an unsupported system for the installation.

What operating system are you using?

Please visit the OneCare weblink for system requirements:

Thank you for visiting the Live OneCare program forum. Please use extreme caution before attempting to troubleshoot your issue. Also, please read the entire set of instructions carefully. Remember, the instructions given may or may not help your particular scenario.

First make sure your operating system is Windows XP SP2 or later.

Once you have verified that you have removed as much of the OneCare program (from your install that failed), go to the following link:

Once there, click Full Service Scan

Read the Service Agreement and click Accept if you accept the terms of use

It should say "Loading Scanning Tools"

    Then click Customize...

Uncheck all of the boxes with the exception of the Registry cleaner scan (make sure this box is checked) and the Disk cleanup scan (make sure this box is checked too)

    Then click Next

Follow all the prompts to clean your registry out all of your uninstalled programs where remnants are left behind. Then reboot.

Next, make sure your system is up-to-date with all the latest updates for .net framework 1.1 and 2.0.

    Go to:

Then go to the screen which says "Express" or "Custom"

    Click Custom

After the page loads, you will see on the left "Search by type"

    Click Software Optional

Make sure that all .net framework boxes are checked to install, then go back to the "High Priority" and make sure that all of those are checked ready to install too.

Install the updates. Reboot, then repeat this process till all "High Priority" and ".net" updates are installed. Then do one last final reboot to make sure all updates are fully installed.

Next, when you get to a desktop, open Internet Explorer and go to the following link:

Download and try reinstalling the program again. You will need your Windows Live ID and Password or your OneCare Product Key from your media.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for contacting the Live OneCare program forum.

    Rick, MS
